Easy Milk Dinner Rolls

Posted on September 24, 2023

Making easy milk dinner rolls is a great way to add a homemade touch to your dinner table. Here’s a simple recipe for delicious milk dinner rolls:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg (optional, for an egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds for topping (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Sprinkle the yeast over the milk mixture and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy. This indicates that the yeast is active.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add the softened butter and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
  3. Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, stirring continuously until a soft dough forms. You may not need all 3 cups of flour; stop when the dough is no longer sticky but still soft.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment for this step.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Punch down the risen dough to release the air. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and shape each portion into a ball.
  8. Place the dough balls on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them evenly. Cover them again and let them rise for about 15-20 minutes.
  9. If you want a shiny finish, beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the rolls. You can also sprinkle sesame seeds or poppy seeds on top for added flavor and texture.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown on top and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  11. Remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve warm with butter or your favorite toppings.

These easy milk dinner rolls are soft, fluffy, and perfect for serving with soups, stews, or as a side dish for your favorite dinner. Enjoy!
