Chocolate Cake Based on Hershey’s

Hershey’s is known for its classic chocolate cake recipe, often referred to as “Hershey’s Perfectly Chocolate Cake.” It’s a moist and rich chocolate cake that’s both easy to make and delicious. Here’s the recipe for Hershey’s Chocolate Cake:

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

For the Chocolate Frosting:

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions:

For the Cake:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the granulated sugar, all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed until well combined, about 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but that’s okay.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  7. Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes. Then, remove the cakes from the pans and place them on a wire rack to cool completely.

For the Chocolate Frosting:

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
  2. Stir in the cocoa powder until smooth.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat and beat in the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until the frosting is smooth and reaches your desired consistency.

Assembling the Cake:

  1. Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate.
  2. Spread a layer of chocolate frosting on top of the first layer.
  3. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the entire cake.
  4. Decorate as desired, and you can use chocolate shavings or sprinkles for an extra touch.
  5. Slice and enjoy your delicious homemade Hershey’s Chocolate Cake!
